The Pork Roll Paddle

A jaunt around Jersey

What?

An Amy and Ryan concoction to paddle around NJ. We'll start from Port Jervis on the top-left of NJ, go down the Delaware and up the coast (through the bays) to the Hudson near the top-right of NJ. At Bear Mountain State Park, we'll drop the boat and hike back to Port Jervis on the Appalachian Trail (about 500 miles paddling, 65 miles hiking). If you live anywhere near the route (i.e. near the border or coast of NJ) and are open to letting us (Amy and Ryan) camp in your yard or stay in your house for a night, reach out below!

When?

We're launching on August 9th, 2026 and need to be finished up by September 8th (ideally also 2026).

Why?

To explore our home state. To meet interesting people and see pretty places. To eat good italian food and cheesecake. To spend the month paddling. To avoid the Texas summer. To have an adventure. To have some fun.

The Ask

There's not much camping along the way. If you live near the route and are open to letting us crash there for the night, please reach out. We're happy to camp in your yard and promise to have some interesting stories :) If this is something you might be open to, fill out the old form below and I'll reach out.

FAQ

You can't actually paddle around NJ.

That's not really a question, but fair enough. Yes, we'll be hiking the norther section (on the Appalachian Trail), about 50 miles. But the other 500 miles are bordered by water - pretty neat.

How far is that?

Something like 565 miles (~500 miles paddling, 65 walking)/

Will you be wearing sunscreen?

Of course, we would never not wear sunscreen Mom.

What about the Point Pleasant Canal?

We'll be taking our boat for a walk around the Point Pleasant Canal, and likely most of the way to Long Branch. I imagine we'll get some looks.
